Habitat Pinellas and West Pasco is excited to join the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) in celebrating Women in Construction (WIC) Week March 1st – 7th, 2020. The focus of WIC Week is to highlight women as a visible component of the construction industry. WIC Week raises awareness of the opportunities available for women in the construction industry and emphasizes the growing role of women in the industry.
Gaby is a lead construction woman for the Habitat team, as the V.P. of Construction & Procurement. She oversees all aspects of the Construction Department up to and including procurement, budgeting, safety policies, Homeowner Candidate’s housing selection, pre-permit applications, supervisor scheduling, and meeting building & budget goals set forth by the CEO and Board of Directors.
With a Master’s Degree in Architecture, Gaby has 20 years of experience in the design and construction field, with this year being her 10th anniversary with Habitat for Humanity.
Gaby describes her biggest accomplishment in the industry as “When a family moves into a beautiful new home that is cost-effective, and energy-efficient. It is where they will thrive, grow, and have the opportunity to invest back into their community. Seeing the completion of each home that is on schedule, on budget, and with zero safety incidents.”
“Women have been heavily involved in the Construction and Design Industry throughout history. Although you are entering a male-dominated sector, women have as much to offer as their counterparts. Anybody wanting to pursue a career in any field, construction or not, should consider all aspects of the work and be passionate about every detail. If this sector is something you want to do, then do it.”
