“My house will be my home. Our home will be a lovely blessing for me and my grandkids when they come over. They would love it too .”
Sharon Williams and Eddie Thompson are best friends. The two of them have decided to work towards their dream of homeownership as a team. Eddie currently works for Save-a-Lot as a Shift Lead and Sharon is a stay-at-home grandmother. Their family can be described as “patient, loving, and caring”.
For all her life, Sharon has been on Section 8 Housing. Some of the places she has lived have impacted her health negatively, especially houses with mold problems. She wanted to purchase her own home and was recommended to the Habitat program by her brother and his wife. Eddie has also struggled with housing issues for a long time. His current place has been infested with roaches for months. He had three exterminators come out to fix the problem, but none of them addressed the issue properly and he continues to live in unsafe conditions. Soon enough, Sharon and Eddie will begin their life in their brand new forever home with Habitat.
The emotions that the two best friends felt when they got the news they were accepted into the program were excitement and relief. “I was so happy and proud of myself and Eddie. Thank God, it’s been a long journey, but I finally got here,” Sharon says. Eddie says he is looking forward to peace and quiet in his new home. Sharon says “I’m excited because I love to decorate and do my yard work myself and keeping it real clean and neat.”
Applying for the Habitat program was the first step that Sharon and Eddie took towards improving their lives for the better. Eddie says, “Do it. It’s a long process, but it’s worth it. 100%.” Sharon agrees with Eddie and says “This is a awesome program. Put your mind to it and improve your credit. They are the best program.” Homeownership was a dream for the two of them and now it is becoming a reality. The same could happen for you or someone you know.
