“I am looking forward to everything that a home brings: comfort, stability, peace, love, and happiness.”
Carlita Tomlinson and her daughter, Marlicia, are on their journey towards owning a forever home with Habitat. Carlita has worked in the medical records department of the Release of Information Department for over a year. She attended St. Petersburg College and recently graduated in May 2021 with her Associates Degree in Health Information Technology with honors. She describes herself as fun, happy, loving, hard-working, and outgoing. Marlicia is an honor roll student who enjoys shopping, technology, dancing on Tik-Tok, and having fun.
Over the years, the living situations the Tomlinson’s have faced have been challenging. “I have rented houses that were sold by the owner and my daughter and I had to move unexpectedly,” Carlita tells us. When she learned of the news that she was accepted into the Habitat program, she was excited and surprised. “I could not stop smiling and I told my family members and a few friends that are close to me.”
Carlita is excited to begin her sweat equity hours. “By working on my sweat equity, I will be able to maybe one day repair my own home if needed. I will also learn and experience something that I have never done before. ”
