“My house will be filled with love.”
Stephanie Klein has been working for nearly 3 years as a waitress at E&E Stakeout Grill, working towards homeownership. She is a single mother to two kids: her 6- year- old son, Isaiah, and her 16-year-old daughter, Erika. Her kids share a love of various sports, including basketball and dance, as well as a love of video games! Stephanie grew up in the Largo area and continues to raise her family in the same area.
As with many other families, Stephanie struggles greatly to find affordable housing in this area. She wants to provide a good home for her kids to give them a better future. Prior to Habitat, Stephanie was sharing a room with her son, but with the help of the Habitat program, Stephanie was able to change that. “I will finally have my own space and so will he. In the next couple years this is something he will greatly appreciate.”
Stephanie is most looking forward to the quality of life she will be able to provide for herself and her children, as well as raising them in an environment she feels comfortable in. She describes wanting to “… have a community of like minded home owners around me.” Stephanie encourages other to volunteer with Habitat as she reflects on her own time at the build sites: “I have worked on one build site so far and was amazed that we are actually building the houses… It was exciting to learn the different steps in building a real house.” After becoming a homeowner through Habitat, Stephanie is able to start building the foundation of a better life for her family.
