“I want to be able to see my growth as a person into a providing mother. I’m ready to see my weaknesses grow into strengths.”

Teresa Huff is a Lab Medical Assistant at BayCare Outreach Lab who received her degree from the Central Florida Institute. She is a single mother to two children: Damarius and Kahla. Damarius is 20-years-old and is living at home with his mother. Kahla has moved out of the home and is currently raising her own daughter, Raelyn, who is 8-years-old. As a family, they like spending time at the park, going to amusement parks, swimming at the pool, and skating at the roller rink. When speaking about her family, Teresa tells us that “We are the closest to family there is. I’ve dedicated my life to them and tried my best to do what I had to do to provide for my family. I would not trade my life if offered even through the struggles.”

With continuously increasing rent prices, Teresa has struggled with trying to afford rent. In result, the family has had to constantly move from apartment to apartment, living day by day in areas that may not be the best. When she first found out about her acceptance into the Habitat program, all Teresa could think about was how her family’s future was about to change. “I felt the feeling of accomplishment. Like one of my goals for the future had finally come true.”

When Teresa and her family begin their sweat equity, they expect to learn a lot of things that they might have never gotten the chance to learn. “My goal is to learn everything that I am provided, that will help my family’s future.” The Huff Family is excited to have a place that they can call their own and not have to move from apartment to apartment. “My house will be my foundation to a new start to our future.”
