“My house will be blessed.”
Jessica Diaz has worked as a Scheduling Coordinator at Premier NeuroSpine Institute for the past 2 years. She is mother to 3 boys: 16- year- old Sahmir, 10- year- old Justin, and 7- year- old Jeremiah. Sahmir has a passion for fashion, and even started his own clothing brand titled “Nontitle”! He hopes to go to LSU and become an engineer. Justin loves sports and dreams of being an NFL quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. Jeremiah enjoys building things, and like his older brother, he too wants to join the NFL. Jessica describes her home as full of laughter and amazing people.
Like so many others in today’s society, Jessica faces the struggle of living paycheck to paycheck trying to afford the rising rent in her apartment. She works hard to provide her family with a safe place to sleep, despite the poor amenities and maintenance provided by the apartment complexes. She dreams of financial freedom, and knows it is possible with the help of Habitat. As she raises her boys, she wants a place they can grow with and call home.
When Jessica found out she was accepted into the Habitat program, she was brought to tears. The possibility of financial freedom and having a home for her boys was made a reality. When asked what she is looking forward to the most about becoming a homeowner, Jessica described how she “can’t wait to decorate for the holidays, BBQ with my children in our yard” and have financial freedom. Through Habitat, she gained a community through all the people she met, and encourages others to join the mission through volunteering. “You’re helping build a home for a family that is in need in some way.” If you or someone you know is interested in volunteering, you can find out more information on our Volunteering Page.
“Me and my children have our own HOME. Just saying that, it’s just a relief.”
