“Habitat for Humanity is an amazing organization and now a part of my family.”
Uriah Blanks is a single mother who has worked at St. Anthony’s Hospital as a patient support tech for almost two years. She has one daughter named Sahira who is 7 years old. Sahira loves to dance and draw and was her mother’s biggest supporter while fighting breast cancer.
The Mommy & Daughter duo are looking forward to their forever home. They have struggled a lot with their current living situation. “The apartments I live at has a lot of drug related activities. The management is awful and refuses to fix things,” Uriah says.
Uriah was so ecstatic when she heard the news that she was accepted into the Habitat program. “I was very excited and emotional when I was accepted into Habitat. All my hard work really paid off.” She is eager to begin her sweat equity hours and is excited to learn how to paint and do landscaping.
The Blanks’ future home will be a place where they can feel comfortable and safe. Uriah says this will allow them to appreciate more out of life. She says “I am really looking forward to decorating our new home.”
“I would encourage anyone to volunteer with Habitat because they are playing a major role in changing someone’s life.”
