Shriner has the local Pinellas County and West Pasco area CEO, Habitat for Humanity, Mike Sutton. Mike has reached a special milestone in the area by completing their 700th home. Since 1985 Habitat of Humanity has been building homes in the area but only in the last few years have they greatly increased their output. Monday, the Sakers family received the special home changing their lives forever. According to Mike, not many in their organization as a whole reach 700 homes.

PINELLAS PARK — The regional affiliate of Habitat for Humanity — one of the nation’s busiest — recently marked its 700th home build, adding some 100 affordable properties since just 2019 and set to maintain that momentum in the coming year.

The local chapter is second in the nation in new construction among Habitat's 1,200+ locations. It will dedicate its 700th new home on Monday in Pinellas Park.

Wengay Newton donated his mother’s lot to Habitat for Humanity so a family struggling with unsafe living conditions could become homeowners. Lakesha Baxter, her sons Damarion and Carlos, and daughter, LyRyca, received the keys to their new home on Aug. 16.

For more than 20 years, Raymond James has partnered with Habitat for Humanity chapters across the country, and has sponsored 11 full home builds for Habitat for Humanity of Pinellas & West Pasco Counties. Habitat for Humanity empowers individuals and families to build and buy their own homes with the help of people in the community. Homes are sold at no profit and no interest to households who do not qualify for a traditional mortgage. The program prepares homeowner partners with education courses on topics like budgeting and home maintenance.
