“Home is where we build families, love, and support.”
Tracie Boykin is a single mother who has worked as a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician for six years. She and her 16-year-old son, Jadarius, are on their journey towards homeownership together with Habitat. Tracie describes herself as a country girl who loves spending time with family, helping people, and going to church. Her son loves to play football, basketball, and video games. The mother-son duo both love to cook together in the kitchen. Tracie also loves going to cheer on her son at his sport games.
The Boykin family came to Habitat after struggling the last two years with their living situation and Tracie has been unable to get a good night sleep ever since. Her current apartment has mildew issues which has been making Jadarius sick. Her car has also been broken into multiple times and shootouts have happened on the property while they were home. The walls are very thin and it is hard for them to get any rest when their upstairs neighbors never sleep.
After trying to get into the program for awhile, Tracie says she “couldn’t believe it” when she received the news that she was accepted. She is most looking forward to the space and the family time she will have in her new home. “All my worries and stress will be eased. I will have a better living situation and something to call mine.”
At Habitat for Humanity, our mission is to bring people together to build homes, communities and hope. We believe in a world that everyone has a decent place to live. If you or someone you know is interested in participating in the Habitat Homeownership Program, please check out our Apply Page for more information on how to get started.
“I’m looking forward to every minute of sweat equity because when it’s all over I know it will be worth it.”
