“Becoming a homeowner with the assistance of the Habitat for Humanity program will give my girls and I the security to provide a forever home, no matter the circumstances.”
Jasmine Middlebrooks and her daughters Ra’Ziah and Armani are on their journey towards homeownership with Habitat. Jasmine is a Certified Nursing Assistant at Tampa General Hospital and describes herself as strong, motivated, and driven to achieve whatever she puts her mind to. Ra’Ziah is 13-years-old and loves track-and-field, cheerleading, and dancing. She loves to be goofy and outgoing hopes to attend college after graduating high school. Armani is only 3-years-old but is already an intelligent little lady. She enjoys learning new things and is always asking questions. She loves to play doctor and even has her own stethoscope!
The past two years have been the hardest for the Middlebrooks family. After experiencing a divorce in early 2021, the family moved in with Jasmine’s mother. However, after a year of living with her and saving up money to support her family, Jasmine unfortunately got into a car crash and had to purchase a new car. Two weeks later, Jasmine’s mother unexpectedly passed away and they had to move out of her home. Despite all of the hardships and having to plan a funeral for her mother, Jasmine made sure to stay strong for her daughters. She knew that she could not give up on being a mother to her children and wanted to be a role-model for them during these hard times.
“Bad events happening back to back, I knew a blessing was coming soon.” Days later, Jasmine was accepted into the Habitat program. She felt overjoyed, blissful, full of energy, and felt as if a weight was lifted off her shoulders. “I smiled and smiled as I texted all people who I know would support me on this journey, helping with hours and just be there for encouraging words.”
The family has not yet begun their sweat equity yet, but is excited to learn new things about building sites, yard work, painting, and general maintenance that comes with being a homeowner. Jasmine expects her family’s life to be very different after moving into their new home. “I imagine my family and I life peaceful, safe, and stable knowing I purchased a house to provide a safe roof over my daughter’s heads and we are here to stay in our forever home.”
Our organization and all that we do could not be possible without donations and sponsorships from our community. If you or your business is interested in sponsoring a home such as the Middlebrooks Family, please check out our Donate Page for more information on how to get involved.
