“I am building to have a fresh start for my family.”
The Wise family are a very close-knit family who are ready to have a fresh start by going through the Habitat program. Amanda, a preschool teacher of 22 years, is a mother to her two children, Lillian and Gabriel.
She describes Lillian as a “little diva who loves to read,” and Gabriel as “a total boy who loves to build and drive trucks.” The family has lived with Amanda’s mother and her other three children for over a year. “I feel that we are imposing, and we really need a space of our own,” said Amanda.
“I feel truly blessed to receive this kind of help. Since being accepted into the program I have learned how tight knit the Habitat family is.”
While in the Habitat program, Amanda will have to complete 350 “sweat equity” hours and 20 homebuyer education classes; all while working full time and caring for her children. She says that she is grateful for all the support she has already received through this process.
Amanda is most looking forward to having a place to call home. “I am building because I want something that will be mine- something built for my kids and I. My house will be a fresh start.”
