“It’s a dream come true to have a program like this that’s willing to put in so much work next to you.”
Miranda Sparks, a dedicated single mother of three, has faced numerous challenges over the years. Working in customer service, finance, and inside sales at Solar Max, she has always strived to provide for her children—Nathan (13), Jaylynn (4), and Jeremy (3). Despite her hard work, Miranda has struggled with the limitations of their current living situation. “We’ve been stuck in a one-bedroom apartment, and it’s been really tough. My son lost his dad last year, and now he sleeps on the couch. It’s just too small for us,” Miranda shares.
The rising cost of living and inadequate housing have made it nearly impossible for Miranda to move to a better home. “Since COVID hit, prices have increased so much. Moving has been out of the budget,” she explains. Their current home, an old house that needs a lot of work, is far from ideal.
Miranda’s acceptance into the Habitat for Humanity program has brought a renewed sense of hope. “When I found out I was accepted, I was so excited. It felt like God really answered my prayers,” she says. The program not only promises a new home but also the opportunity for Miranda to gain valuable skills through sweat equity. “Habitat has been amazing. There are so many opportunities to earn sweat equity hours. I can even do quizzes at home with my kids,” she explains.
Looking forward to their new home, Miranda envisions a life of stability and peace. “I’m excited for less worry and more organization. Having my own room is something I haven’t had since I was a kid. A home that doesn’t have mold or foundation problems, somewhere we feel safe and can make memories—it’s such a peaceful feeling as a mom,” she reflects. Miranda is also eager to decorate and create a space that truly feels like home. “I want to hang pictures on the wall and make it home sweet home.”
