“My Habitat Home will give my kids a foundation that is secured with family, love, and peace.”
Erica Harvey is a Mobile Service Coordinator at Ford of Port Richey. She has worked there for over four years. Erica has a two children, Bryson (7) and Zaniyah (2). This family loves going to the beach, being outside, and going in the water. “These two are the best part of my life,” said Erica. “They just make me better.”
Erica and her kids have lived with her parents for the last few months due to high rent, inflation, and unsafe living conditions. Though her kids love being around their grandparents, Erica knew it was time to find a permanent living solution. She learned about the Habitat Program through her employer, Ford of Port Richey. This dealership recently sponsored a home in New Port Richey, which required both a financial and volunteer commitment from the business. The volunteer component was fulfilled by employees taking turns to go out and help build the Habitat home.
The Harvey Family is making its way through the program and moving closer and closer to becoming homeowners. That accomplishment will end generational poverty and create intergenerational wealth for Erica and her children. “I am just so happy that I have been given this life-changing opportunity and for Habitat helping me become better in every aspect of my life,” said Erica. “The biggest chance has been with my finances. The financial literacy classes are the best.”
Erica challenges others to get involved with Habitat as an advocate, donor, homeowner candidate, shopper at the ReStore, or by volunteering. You can see what works for you by starting at habitatpwp.org.
