“Habitat for Humanity is a blessing to those of us who can’t seem to get a chance of homeownership and they believe wholeheartedly in the homeowner candidates they partner with.”
Krystal Spaulding is a single mother to two girls and a second-generation Habitat homeowner in the making. She is on her journey to provide a safe and stable home for her 7-year-old daughter Kylee and her 1-year-old daughter Lila. Kylee is an active participant of a local dance team. She enjoys tumbling, art, swim, and fashion. Lila enjoys doing the things her big sister Kylee does.
The Spaulding Family is native to St. Petersburg. “It became nearly impossible to afford decent housing in the city that I call home,” Krystal tells us. After the pandemic, the family was forced to move to an undesirable and unsafe neighborhood with a neglectful landlord. They dealt with infestation issues, broken appliances, and no kitchen cabinets. Krystal’s parents graciously allowed for the family to move into their home for the time being. “Although I am sharing a room with my children, we are all making this temporary sacrifice to reach our dream of homeownership.”
When Krystal was accepted into the Habitat program she was overwhelmed with emotions. “I was grateful, excited, hopeful, yet nervous for the journey I was about to embark on.” She is most looking forward to her new yard that her daughters can play in.
“At any and every habitat encounter, it is always inspiring to see the hard work and dedication of others. The selfless habitat staff exudes is a blessing. I am always learning new things every time I am completing sweat equity hours. Everyone is so helpful and encouraging and they care about others.”
