“You’re never too old or it’s never too late to become a homeowner.”
Meet Tangela Butler, a determined single mother of four, working as a Bus Driver for Pinellas County Schools. She is currently in the Habitat for Humanity program and eagerly awaits the opportunity to have a stable home for her twin 17-year-old sons, Mikel and Mikye, who will be living with her. Tangela’s story reflects the challenges of finding affordable housing, especially with soaring rent prices. She describes her struggle to make ends meet, but her unwavering love and dedication to her kids and seven grandchildren shine through.
Tangela’s dream of owning a home is finally becoming a reality through Habitat for Humanity. The thought of her twins having their own rooms, without their disabilities conflicting with one another, fills her with joy. She envisions converting the garage into a play area for her beloved grandchildren, a place where they can be carefree and happy. Tangela’s gratitude for this opportunity knows no bounds. “When I found out I was accepted into Habitat, I cried and cried and cried. It was really real; I’m really on my way to becoming a homeowner,” she shares.
Volunteering at Habitat projects has been an enriching experience for Tangela. Working alongside other candidates and hearing their inspiring journeys has given her hope and strength. Tangela is breaking generational curses by building her own home, showing her children that it’s never too late to pursue dreams. “You’re never too old or it’s never too late to become a homeowner. Take that first step, fix what you need to fix to accomplish a dream I’m sure that many have,” Tangela encourages.
