“For the first time I feel in charge of my budget and safe with finances. I feel Habitat has given me all the tools to succeed in life.”
Charlene Martin, a single mother and self-employed business owner at Coastal Cleaning of Florida, is on her homeownership journey with Habitat for Humanity. Raising three young boys – Carson (15), Landon (13), and Luke (9) – Charlene has always prioritized quality time with her children and the desire for financial independence. After going through a divorce, she found the courage to start her own business, driven by her ambition and the need to support her family. Being an entrepreneur sets an inspiring example for her boys, teaching them to chase their dreams and goals.
Currently living in a cramped two-bedroom apartment, Charlene’s biggest concern is the lack of privacy and space for her growing boys. The apartment has its share of problems, including black mold in the AC causing respiratory distress and limited parking, making daily life more challenging. Rising rent prices have also burdened Charlene, leaving her longing for a lower cost of living. Safety concerns and incidents of theft in the neighborhood further highlight the urgency for a stable and secure home for her family.
Life as a mother of three active boys is filled with excitement and dedication. From cheering them on during basketball games to celebrating their academic achievements, Charlene finds immense joy in supporting her children’s endeavors. With a new Habitat home, she envisions a more convenient location for attending games and cooking together in a spacious kitchen. The house will offer stability and create beautiful memories for her boys to cherish, providing the comfort and security they deserve.
Charlene’s journey with Habitat for Humanity is a testament to her determination and resilience. She eagerly looks forward to the day they start their new life in their forever home. In her own words, “Our house will be a fortress, a place of abundant pleasure full of magic and adventures.” This program will not only enrich their lives with stability but also make Charlene a better mother and business owner, fostering confidence and a sense of belonging in her community.
As we witness Charlene’s inspiring story, it’s essential to remember that organizations like Habitat for Humanity rely on volunteers and support from the community. If you’re passionate about making a difference in the lives of families like Charlene’s, consider volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. Together, we can help build stable homes and create a brighter future for those in need.
