“I am most looking forward to the space and the opportunity to say I did it. I know my story will motivate more single dads like myself.”
Jason Murray is a Science Teacher at Mt. Moriah Christian Fundamental Academy and a Life Skills Teacher at the Pinellas County Urban League. He is a graduate from Bethune Cookman University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts. He is a single father to his two daughters, 11-year-old Lyric and 10-year-old Rhian and is excited to announce that he has a third daughter on the way! “We are a close knit family that enjoys traveling and trying new restaurants,” Jason says. “I often tell my daughters that coming together is the beginning, keeping together is a process, and working together is success.”
Like many other families in our community, Jason and his girls have found themselves living in a small apartment with not a lot of space for living in comfort. “I want a place where my daughters will have room to grow and be able to play outside without being in the wrong environment,” Jason tells us. When he and his family were accepted into the program, he says he was “extremely excited”. “I felt that this was a opportunity for me to build generational wealth and teach my children the importance of being responsible.”
In their new forever home, the Murray family is excited to put to use all of the things that they have learned through Habitat. If any problem arises in his new home, Jason will be ready with a hammer and a nail to fix any door, window, or faucet. “My house will be the most beautiful house on the street. Filled with love.”
As a Life Skills Teacher, Jason is full of motivation and encouragement. He offers these words of wisdom to anyone who is considering applying to the Habitat for Humanity Homeownership Program: “Don’t waste anymore time. If not now, then when? Success is on the other side of consistency.” For more information on how to apply or refer a friend to the Habitat program, please visit our Apply Page on our website.
